2015 Mongolia Hamster 1oz silver coin

Coin Invest Trust’s (CIT) has released new Mongolia Wildlife series coins, 2015 Mongolia Hamster 1oz silver coin. The sixth silver coin in the prize-winning Mongolian Wild Animals series issue features two dark SWAROVSKI® ELEMENTS representing the hamster’s eyes.

The coin reverse portrays a Campbell's Hamster depicted with Swarovski crystals for eyes, all around there are the inscriptions "Endangered Wildlife", the latin name for the species and the year of issue 2015. Issued by National Bank of Mongolia, on coin obverse the country Coat of Arms and the coin value, "500 Togrog".

Campbell’s dwarf hamsters (Phodopus campbelli) originate from Mongolia, northeast China and southern Siberia but are nowadays bred worldwide and kept as pets. They are usually more active during the day than the golden hamster which is equally popular. Adult Campbell’s hamster reach a body size of eight to ten centimetres. The small rodents feed mainly on various plant seeds and occasionally on small insects. The hamster in turn is preyed upon by raptors and steppe foxes.
