Lithuania 25th years independence from Soviet Union Silver Coin

On March 11, The UAB Lithuanian Mint has released a new coin dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania’s independence (from the series “Lithuania’s Road to Independence”) from the Soviet Union. The legal tender silver .925 proof coin designed by Rūta Ničajienė and Rytas Jonas Belevičius.

The reverse of the coins features a boat with a sail shaped like a wing of a bird, the Lithuanian Tricolour and a musical fragment of the national anthem; the inscription NEPRIKLAUSOMYBĖS ATKŪRIMAS 25 (RESTORATION OF INDEPENDENCE 25) is arranged in a semicircle.

The obverse of the coins features a stylised Vytis, the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA) at the top, the denomination €20 — on the left and the year of issue 2015 at the bottom. The mintmark of the Mint is impressed on the reverse of the coins.

The edge of the coin bears the inscription 1990 03 11 VĖL NEPRIKLAUSOMA VALSTYBĖ (11 03 1990 AGAIN AN INDEPENDENT STATE).

On March 11, 1990, all members of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania led by Sąjūdis signed The Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania, an independence declaration by the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. The act emphasized restoration and legal continuity of the interwar-period Lithuania, which was occupied by the USSR and lost independence in June 1940.
