As part of the First World War five year programme, New Zealand Post will issue a legal tender commemorative coins, The Spirit of Anzac 1oz silver proof coin. The 1oz silver proof coin depicts the landing of New Zealand troops on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915, at a beach that would later become known as Anzac Cove.

The coin reverse show a New Zealand soldier carrying a wounded Australian soldier to safety at Anzac Cove, highlighting that through the hardship of the Gallipoli campaign with inscription above "ONE DOLLAR.WWI 1915 THE SPIRIT OF ANZAC".

Coin comes in a pressed metal tin, made to resemble those gifted to soldiers in World War I by HRH Princess Mary at Christmas.

In 1915 New Zealand’s role in the First World War reached a new level. In near-impossible conditions, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force took part in the Gallipoli campaign alongside Australian. The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) was formed and the spirit of Anzac lives on today. Approximately 12,000 New Zealanders would arrive alongside their Australian neighbours to fight in an ambitious but unsuccessful campaign.
