Royal Mint has released new £20 for £20 Silver Coin-Outbreak 2014 UK £20 Fine Silver Coin. The 999 fine silver weighing 15.71g marks the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War for the nation. Every household are limited to 5 per billing with only 250,000 coins available. The first £20 for £20 coin sold out.
In the summer of 1914, as conflict on the continent loomed, troops on both sides were mobilised and the soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force departed these shores for France. A century later we remember those who gave so much in those first months of war, striking only the second ever UK £20 coin to honour the anniversary.
The coin reverse features Britannia watching over the first troops as they set sail across the channel on the eve of war design by John Bergdahl. The coin obverse show the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS.
